Redefining Hospitality on an Island with Untouched Optimism.
Hotel Villa Carmela is a boutique hotel that redefines hospitality in Cuba, an island trapped in time and seeking to regain a sense of optimism in the midst of adversity. A brand inspired by the work of Amelia Peláez, one of the most representative avant-garde painters of recent years on the island and located in the house where the artist lived most of her life. It is one of the first boutique hotels on the island and seeks to contribute to the renovation of cultural and historical spaces on the island. With only 4 rooms, the hotel seeks to create spaces for intimate disconnection and reflection, around spaces full of art and design, which celebrate the works and life of this great Cuban artist.
Cuba is a socialist country closed to the world for many years. A country that seems to be immortalized in a past time and where poverty and disconnection with the outside world create a contrast between history and tradition, but also of many needs. A country where the joy and warmth of its people is one more element that contributes to the experience of tourists in search of a different and emotionally charged destination. Little by little, the country has opened up to new accommodation experiences, where most hotels are government-approved chains or the homes of locals seeking to make an extra income that gives them hope in a world where optimism is a luxury for few. Cuba, more than for its material luxuries, shines for its people and it is more important to be recognized through its illustrious people, who with effort and dedication debate between shouting with pride where they come from and criticizing this place where they belong.
The hotel is a living space full of design and art, where curatorship and silent luxury create intimate spaces for relaxation and culture. A celebration of the life of one of the island's most important artists: Amelia Peláez. A boutique brand that borrows elements from the world of international hospitality but without losing sight of the visual richness characteristic of the island. We created a brand that of course is based on the eclectic and explosive work of the artist but also creates a rich visual language loaded with timeless elements that elevate the hotel experience. A refined brand, without being alien to the reality of the island and that also becomes a sacred space of admiration to one of the most relevant people in the history of the island and that becomes a focus of light and hope for the inhabitants. Cuba shines for its people and this brand is a small contribution to the island to understand but also to re-signify its history with optimism.
